About Laba SkiBoat Club
LABA Ski Boat club has its origin in 1986 when Chris Schutte and Lee Wiid decided to break away and start their own Deep Sea Angling Club. They joined the freshwater club Lowveld Angling & Boating Association and started the Ski Boat division under the name LABA.
The Club was mainly used as a social angling club, but it was only in 2014 when the Committee took a more serious approach to the management of the club and its future. The committee made the decision to break away from LABA fresh water and become an independent Club affiliated with Mpumalanga Deep Sea Angling Association. The Club was transformed into a very competitive angling Club and got more involved on Provincial level where anglers are now competing in competitions against other clubs in Mpumalanga as well as other provinces in South Africa where they represent not only LABA Ski Boat Club but also Mpumalanga Deep Sea Angling Association.
LABA Ski Boat Club is committed to the development of new and current anglers as well as junior anglers. Every year the Club hosts numerous Club Competitions like the Fresh Water Karp Competition at Vygeboom Dam, The Tiger Fish competition in Komatipoort and our Premium Deep Sea Club Competition in Mozambique (East Africa Safaris) or at Cape Vidal KZN. This won’t be possible without our main sponsor that has been supporting us over the last 15 years, Astron Energy North Marketer.
LABA Ski Boat Club has grown to become the second biggest Deep Sea Angling Club in Mpumalanga thanks to a very committed committee with the assistance of two legends that unfortunately passed away in 2025. Gary Larkan and Chris Pyper were extremely passionate about angling and managed to guide the Club in the right direction over the years and their input will never be forgotten.
The Committee at LABA Ski Boat Club is there to serve and support all our members as well as any new members joining the club. No one in our Club will become better than our beloved sport and no one will deem themselves better than the next. We are here for each other, to support each other, to uplift each other and to build our club to the best of our abilities.
Please join us at our Club House at our next Tackle Box and become part of our Angling Family.
